Sehingga mayoritas orang tidak memperoleh upah yang cukup, padahal ia sudah bekerja keras dengan kreativitas yang tinggi, dan berkontribusi penuh terhadap output perusahaan. Pada saat yang sama, perlakuan tidak adil kepada kelas pekerja ini akan menimbulkan ketidakpuasan, frustasi, agitasi, dan pemogokan.

Menurut Barrington Moore, tindakan seperti: protes, demonstrasi, pemogokan dan pemberontakan adalah ekspresi perasaan yang mendalam tentang makna ketidakadilan di masyarakat. Pemberian upah secara umum kepada seseorang atas jerih payahnya dalam bekerja dibolehkan (ibahah) dalam hukum Islam. Terutama bila dikaitkan dengan prinsip pembagian keuntungan dan kerugian (profit and lost sha-ring principle). Berangkat dari Fenomena tersebut, dalam buku ini penulis menganalisis secara komprehensif tentang implementasi upah minimum yang dilihat dari tiga aspek, yaitu: polarisasi sistem pengupahan di perusahaan, peraturan pemerintah terkait pengupahan sebagai jaring pengaman, serta komponen upah minimum yang belum mampu memenuhi kebutuhan hidup layak para pekerja/buruh.
